Meet The Team

Mel Chris Jessica
Before Animal Rescue QLD happily consumed her world, Mel worked in varying roles from managing a boarding kennel, selling real estate to photography and graphic design. With this vast experience behind her, Mel guides our team and makes sure everybody is fully focused on the job at hand – re-homing as many dogs as we can!

Fun Fact:

Mel played eight ball for the QLD ladies national team.

Chris was with ARQ from the beginning, first as a carer then later joining the management team (whilst continuing to foster care of course). She grew up on a 20000 acre property in the country so horses and dogs have always ruled her world. She completed a masters specialising in canine behaviour.
She spent time with the kennel and training departments of a guide dog school, and now shares that passion for matching the right dog with the right people in her role as adoptions co-ordinator, which she’s been doing since Feb 2012.Fun Fact:

Chris cycled 250 km in the Victorian “Round the Bay in a Day” challenge and lived to tell!

Since her partner convinced her to get puppy, dogs have become a big part of Jessica’s life.  When she’s not working as a Spatial Information Officer, she’ll be planning her next overseas holiday, playing hockey or training her two dogs.  She is a volunteer instructor for two dog training clubs in Mackay and visits the pound regularly to help find suitable homes or foster carers for abandoned and homeless dogs that are out of time.  She recently started competing in agility with her dog Mars and is a foster failure with her three legged dog Wally.Fun Fact:

In their first year of competition agility in Mackay, Jessica and Mars won Rookie of the year, Novice Jumping Dog of the year and Novice Agility Dog of the year.

Jess Talia Katrina
Jess is the baby of the team at 19 years old and doubles as a foster carer and foster liaison officer. She loves fostering hand reared bottle babies and helping out with the transport of our Warwick/Stanthorp poundies.  Jess has always enjoyed working with dogs, with a background in dog grooming/minding and she is now on the path to study Vet Science in the future. She currently works in childcare and enjoys teaching kids about dogs and rescue.

Fun Fact:

Jess featured in a Hogs Breath commercial when she was younger

Talia currently works full time as a Personal Assistant in a legal firm in the Brisbane CBD and has been in the industry for the past 6 years. She has a Diploma in Paralegal Studies and a Cert IV in Business Admin. During her free time she can be found volunteering her Saturday mornings at the RSPCA, writing doggie emails for ARQ, playing netball and looking after her herd of animals at home.

Fun Fact:

Talia really enjoys cooking and trying her creations out on her friends and family. She is also a choco-holic!

Katrina is our amazing Foster Co-ordinator. She worked in a boarding kennel and cattery for 2 years and is currently studying to be a Vet Nurse. She has completed Certificate ll in Animal Studies and is currently studying her Certificate lll in Companion Animals. She is very dedicated and passionate about animals; she also spends what little free time she has volunteering at the Animal Welfare League in Queensland. Katrina has often been called the ‘dog crazy’ as she likes to ‘talk to the dogs’. Katrina believes every dog deserves their second chance whether purebred or crossbreed.

Fun Fact: With all the hard work and responsibility that comes with Katrina’s role, she is still one of the babies of the team at only 20 years of age.

Ali Casey Hayley D
Ali originally hails from the UK where she worked in the costume industry for several years and then moved onto luxury fashion. After 10 years of fashion, she’d had enough and decided to run away and join the circus. As the circus wouldn’t have her, she moved to Australia instead to hang out with her boyfriend who had moved back home to Oz the year before. Now married, and living on the Gold Coast, Ali runs a dog care business called ‘Wag the Dog’; she lives and breathes dogs and her children are all furry and four legged.Fun Fact:

Ali was an avid kick boxer when she was in London and even earned her black belt after years of training, sadly it is obsolete now, but it’s still a pretty cool fact!

Casey works part time in a resort working with large conferences, banquet dinners and weddings. She has moved up and down the coast to and from her home town down in Port Macquarie and is now finding her place in this tiny world helping out our furry friends on the Gold coast. Her 4 legged furbag is the love of her life. She has just started her animal studies course and plans to climb the scary ladder of life to be a veterinary nurse.

Fun Fact:

I love food, cooking and trying new things, though my partner might not agree with what I make him eat. Im a huge choco-holic, so, if you want anything don’t hesitate to try and bribe me, it works every time =)

In between working part-time (in banking – boring!) and playing netball and soccer 4 times a week, Hayley spends her time with her Border Collie ‘Fly’ and whichever crazy foster dog she has that month.
She enjoys travelling overseas and is saving up for her next big holiday to the United States.Fun Fact:

After knowing her husband for 12 years, of which 7 were spent ‘dating’, they eloped in Port Douglas, QLD, and only their parents came to the ceremony. Their friends didn’t even know they were engaged until they were invited to an “engagement party” after it all happened, only to be told they were actually already married.

Hi there, my name is Kelly and I live in Redland Bay, Brisbane.  I love animals and as a kid was always bringing home random stray animals or animals my friends didn’t want. I am married with a two year old son and have two beautiful dogs of my own – Jessie (Staffy x Cattle) and Gemma (ARQ Foster Fail – Amstaff).  Volunteering for ARQ is very rewarding and I love being able to help with saving dogs lives every week.I have had many foster dogs through my home, and each one has taught me something about myself and helps me grow as much as I help them.

On a personal level, I love camping and reading (although I don’t get much time) and making jewellery, and I also work from home as an OHS Consultant.  I also love baking with my son – especially anything chocolate.

Fun Fact:

I was born in Christchurch NZ and moved to Brisbane with my parents when I was 13.

Hayley found ARQ after endlessly searching for the perfect playmate for her dog Dexter. She adopted the ever so wilful Bindi and life hasn’t been dull since!! Besides her love of dogs, she is a huge fan of peanut butter chocolate icecream, red wine and travelling overseas.

Fun Fact:

Hayley lived in Canada for 3 months and never set foot on the ski slopes, preferring the pubs at the bottom of them!

Connie has worked in various positions including office administration and management and working with people with disabilities. In between coordinating the donations team she enjoys travelling, movies, the beach, long walks and spending time with good friends.
